$44 Million Allocated to EV Battery Recycling Projects – The Presidential Prayer Team
The Department of Energy (DOE) distributed $44 million to eight research and development projects exploring electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling solutions.
As many modern batteries do, EV batteries require a number of rare earth materials, namely lithium, in order to function. However, lithium supplies are limited, and reusing lithium once it is in a batter is currently difficult. The research and development projects chosen to receive this funding focus on the process of recycling batteries on a large scale, including transportation, dismantling, and mineral extraction.
“Finding new life for used batteries will significantly reduce pollution and our reliance on other nations, while lowering costs and supporting the clean energy transition,” said Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.
